Paris+ par Art Basel
Sites
For the inaugural edition of Paris+ par Art Basel, the gallery co-presents an immersive, site-specific project the Jardin des Tuileries by Raúl de Nieves. For this installation, de Nieves presents three encrusted figurative sculptures that reference costumes worn by musicians to express their alter egos or stage personas. De Nieves makes colorful beaded sculptures and choreographs elaborately costumed performances that investigate notions of beauty and transformation. Through processes of accumulation and adornment, the artist transforms readily available materials into spectacular objects, which he then integrates into immersive narrative environments. De Nieves’ visual symbolism draws on both traditional Catholic and Mexican vernaculars to create his unique mythology, which challenges and explores themes of sexuality, the human body, as well as individual and public histories. Presented in partnership with Company Gallery, New York and Fitzpatrick Gallery, Paris. For more information about the works, please contact us at info@moranmorangallery.com.
