Dallas Art Fair

Booth F26

For the 2019 edition of the Dallas Art Fair, the gallery partners with CANADA to co-present a booth dedicated to new works by RJ Messineo. Messineo presents a group of new paintings based on abstractions that allude to windows, beds, or blankets. The large-scale works all incorporate thin sheets of plywood cut into right-angled shapes that are adhered onto canvas, sometimes extending beyond the rectangular stretcher to create an irregular contour. These rigid elements allow Messineo to push the application and opacity of the oil paint – thick, impasto sections are scraped onto the surface or carved into, scribbling marks fade into shifting moments of washy, brushed-on color. Each painting is a material thought process and suggests binary relationships such as exteriors and interiors, or mediation and relativity. To receive a PDF with detailed information on the works, please contact the gallery at info@moranmorangallery.com.
