Ari Marcopoulos No Cause
Ari Marcopoulos’ work focuses on marginal pockets of American life, chronicling the early roots of subcultures as they creep into mainstream conscience. He has an uncanny ability to be at the right place at the right time, capturing cultural movements as they are taking form. In 1993, the skate scene was just beginning to take form in New York City. Marcopoulos was there, and his exhibition No Cause captures the mood of this era. Through intimate portraits and moments caught on Polaroid, black-and-white photographs, color snapshots, photocopies, and drawings, he takes us on a ride, chronicling the personalities and locations that shaped a movement and inspired popular culture.
