David Benjamin Sherry challenges and reinvigorates traditional landscape depictions of the American West through painting and photography, which are further informed by his consideration of environmentalism, color, mysticism, human connectedness, and queer politics. He is best known for his iconic monochromatic darkroom printed landscapes, born from his love of the outdoors and the chemistry involved with the analog process, images which he now uses as a memory archive to create minimalist abstractions on canvas. Sherry’s paintings are performative echoes of these sacred places and his own impression of the magic and vibrations of the North American landscape.
